M.Sc. in 2007 with Mario Cohn-Haft and Izeni Farias; Ph.D. in 2012 with Michael Wink

Alexandre was a student in the joint INPA/UFAM Genetics, Conservation and Evolutionary Biology program. Alexandre was advised by Mario Cohn-Haft of the department of Ecology of INPA and co-advised by Izeni Farias. For his Masters, Alexandre did a comparative phylogeographic analysis of three species of small passerine birds occurring on the opposite sides of the Maderia River, and two of its two tributaries, the Aripuaná e Ji-Paraná Rivers. Alexandre's work on passerine differentiaton was recognized as the best poster presentation at the VIII Congreso de Ornitología Neotropical, Maturin, Monagas, Venezuela in May, 2007. In August 2008 Alexandre has started his Ph.D. at the Ruprecht-Karls University in Heidelberg, Germany being funded by the prestigious CNPq doctoral fellowship. He expanded his work on Amazonian passerine birds. After obtaining his Ph.D., he held a post-doctoral position at MPEG with Alexandre Aleixo. Currently Alexandre is a professor at Rural Federal University of Pernambuco.
