Alan is interested patterns of distribution and prevalence of blood parasites of Brazilian birds. For his Masters and Ph.D. he concentrated on the birds of the cerrado, while for his post-doc he will be studying birds of the Amazon rainforest. Alan is also expanding his interests into the study of co-evolution between Haemoproteus and Plasmodium parasites and their avian hosts. Alan did his Masters and Ph.D. in the UNB Ecology and Animal Biology programs, respectively. Subsequently Alan did a FAPEAM-DCR post-doc in the LEGAL laboratory at UFAM with Izeni Farias, and currently is a postdoc at Drexel University.
