DNA barcoding
The lab was represented at the Fourth International Barcode of Life Conference held in Adelaide, Australia from November 28 to December 4, 2011.
Madeira River field trip
Several lab members undertook a second field trip in early December to the Madeira River this year. The lab spent two weeks sampling vertebrates between the confluence of the Aripuana River and the mouth of the Madeira. The first field trip took place for three weeks in September, and concentrated on the stretch between the city of Humaita and the Aripuana River.
SISBIOTA field trip
The SISBIOTA project has realized the first of six field trips in the second half of October and first half of November. The field work was conducted in the middle reaches of the Jatapu River, the largest tributary of the Uatuma River. The SISBIOTA project is a biodiversity survey using traditional taxonomy, cytotaxonomy and DNA barcoding in nine vertebrate groups (fishes, birds, bats, rodents, marsupials, primates, amphibians, lizards and snakes). Next trip is planned for late February to early March to the upper Negro River.
