Themis is interested in various aspects of fish biology, and in the biology of aquatic animals in general. For her Masters thesis she studied Podocnemis sextuberculata, and for her Ph.D. thesis studied the aruanã (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum). Themis obtained her Ph.D. from the UFAM Biotechnology program, and currently is an assistant professor at the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL).
