Neves is working on the molecular genetics of quelonians, focusing on the four Brazilian species of Podocnemis (P. expansa, P. sextuberculata, P. unifilis and P. erythrocephala). Neves' principal interest is to understand the population genetic structuring of these species. Neves is currently a professor of Biochemistry at UFAM.
